This May, the 7th Euro-American Congress REHABEND 2018 has been organized in Cáceres on “Pathology of Construction, Technology of Rehabilitation and Management of Heritage”, where BAC has participated in one of the presentations.
Under the title: “Structural retrofitting of the colonnade of the “Sala de los Pasos Perdidos” of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands”, the paper presented was a document that reflects the study and proposal of the Building Department of BAC in the development of the structural analysis prior to the retrofitting intervention. This proposal materialized, firstly, through the structural numerical analysis of the previous processes of loading into previously replaced columns. Next, we proceeded to the structural numerical analysis of the processes of loading into the columns replaced in a second intervention.
As a consequence of these analyzes, the guidelines to be followed in the process of intervention and structural rehabilitation are deduced, to comply scrupulously with the tests and millimeter deformation limitations and to know how the whole works.
With this paper we wanted to demonstrate the importance of the diagnosis studies prior to the retrofitting intervention, either by taking data, tests, tastings or, as the case that BAC showed in his paper, through the structural numerical analysis, with the objective of knowing the behavior of a historic building and, thus, speeding up the intervention and avoiding structural damage afterwards. In the same way, the intervention requirements that were, in the example that was presented, of scrupulous and millimeter control of the deformation are established, treating the intervention of a precision work.
