Josep Raventós, Manager of the Geotechnical and Auscultation Department, will participate in the XI SNIG, National Symposium of Geotechnical Engineering, organized by the Spanish Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (SEMSIG) to be held on 24, 25, 26 and 27 May 2022 in Mieres, Asturias.
Under the theme “Geotechnics in support of safety and sustainability”, the symposium will be attended by national experts, including Josep Raventós, who will present two papers:
- The development of international standards for geotechnical instrumentation under the ISO. The article presents the progress of work carried out in the international working group ISO TC182/WG2, of which Josep Raventós is the Spanish representative, to present the scope and objective of these standards.
- The effect of the correct design and execution of the installation of incremental extensometers on the quality of the results obtained. The article exemplifies the application of ISO 18674/2 in a practical case where incremental extensometers were used to measure settlement in a soft ground consolidation process.

Josep has a degree in geology and a master’s degree in ground engineering and 20 years of experience in geotechnical and structural instrumentation. He is the Spanish representative in the ISO TC182/WG2 committee in charge of the development of international standards for the use of geotechnical instrumentation and member of the committee of surveillance and safety of dams in the Spanish committee of large dams, among others.
BAC’s Geotechnical and Instrumentation Department has extensive experience in the design and development of geotechnical investigation campaigns (including drilling and sampling, on-site and laboratory testing) as well as the design and implementation of monitoring and auscultation systems for the ground and structures.
